The Sui Southern Gas Company’s SS&CGTO team in coordination with its CRD, DSM and police conducted a raid on a Nimco factory in Yousuf Goth near Naval Colony, Korangi, where a man, Muhammad Farid, a fake/unregistered customer, was running the factory by stealing gas from the main line through a rubber pipe, said a press release issued by the city’s gas utility.
Farid was allegedly selling gas to 50 houses for their domestic use in Yousuf Goth. He was arrested during the raid an FIR was lodged against him.
Two more raids were carried out in Korangi, where domestic customers were found using gas for commercial purposes to run a confectionary shop and a sweets shop with loads of 600 cft/hr and 225 cft/hr respectively. The meters were removed and the gas supply was disconnected. A claim was raised in accordance to the loads used by the culprits.
Earlier to this, the SS&CGTO Hyderabad carried out two joint raids in Sujawal Subzone. In the first raid, a customer was found using a domestic line for industrial use by generating power for Silver Rice Mills by tampering with the meter and regulator through consuming gas load of 213 Cft/Hr. The meter was removed and the service line was cut off.
In the second raid, a customer was found using a domestic line for industrial use by generating power for Diamond Rice Mills where culprits consumed a load of 69 Cft/Hr by tampering with the meter and regulator. The meter was removed and the service line was killed. A claim will be raised accordingly.
The stolen gas worth millions of rupees was being illegally used in these areas. The SSGC is waging an all-out war against all those involved in gas theft by conducting raids on a regular basis in its franchise provinces of Sindh and Balochistan.
The theft of gas affects the SSGC financial bottom line by millions of rupees. The flow of raids and moves would be intensified against the culprits in the company’s franchise areas, said the press release.
