Sui Southern Gas Company was conferred with the prestigious PMI-KPC Award for ‘Community Advancement through Project Management’ by Project Management Institute (PMI) Karachi-Pakistan Chapter. SSGC was presented with the award at the PMI-KPC’s Project Management Awards 2017 and International Project Management Day, for the project management skills demonstrated by the Company in the provision of water solar pump, deep hand pumps and solar light systems to a number of villages of Tharparkar. The project, aimed to bring about a marked difference in the life style of the local community, was undertaken as part of SSGC’s Corporate Social Responsibility.
Syed Imran Ahmed, Chief Manager (Corporate Communications) received the Award on behalf of SSGC from Professor Dr. Ata-ur-Rahman, eminent scientist and former Federal Minister for Science and Technology at a Karachi hotel. SSGC was adjudged the winner in its category by an independent panel of judges.
The project was undertaken with the aim of bringing about a significant change in the lives of the people of Onero Bheel, Guddoji Dhani and Gengaveri villages in Tharparkar by contributing towards poverty reduction, improved health and hygiene conditions and reduced water borne diseases. Supply of solar-powered water pumps and domestic electrical devices that run purely on solar power benefited the local people and saved the time of women and children which was earlier being wasted in fetching water from miles away. This initiative helped to improve their health and allowed them to spend more time on other productive works. On the other hand, solar light systems made villagers feel protected from snake bites at night and helped them stay connected through charging of cell phones while at night children could study and women can work on handicrafts. This project is bringing a long lasting impact on the lives of Tharparkar villagers which will carry on till future generations.
