SSGC’s Team Conducts GPS Survey of Zarghun-Quetta Pipeline

Carrying out survey in Zarghun-Quetta was a dangerous exercise. Security for the team was provided by the Frontier Constabulary and several jammers.

NEWS A re-route joint survey was carried out by SSGCs IT, P&C and P&D Departments for the demarcation of Right of Way (RoW) and re-installation of damaged markers in Balochistan for laying down a Transmission Pipeline Network of approximately 64 kilometers from Zarghun South-1 to Quetta TBS. This is a totally satellite based re-route survey with the help of GPS Technology. Executives of IT, P&D and P&C Departments marked temporary symbols, KMP post markers and turning points regarding requirements of the project. This survey was done twice by a private company in 2004 and 2009 but now the SSGC management has decided that survey be conducted totally in-house by the IT Department. The method for this survey involving converting data from the Survey of Pakistan (SOP) system into GIS projection.

Team members included IT’S Zawwar Hussain, Acting Manager and M. Tariq Qureshi, Deputy Manager, P&D’s Akhtar Hussain Soomro, Engineer and Qayoom Khan, Executive and Hassan Brohi, Supervisor (P& C Quetta). Brigadier Saleem Mehmood (GM-Mari Gas Company), Col. Saeed Arshad (CM, Security), Abdul Rehman (AM, Security) provided security and guidance.
