SSGC’s relentless drive against gas theft has continued unabated with a recent crackdown on an 18-acre poultry farm. SSGC’s raiding party found the owner involved in unauthorized use of gas. The culprit was found using a domestic connection to run his huge poultry farm with a 100 KVA generator and other appliances. The ‘Counter Gas Theft Team’, led by SSGC’s Lieutenant Colonel (R) Mohammad Ayaz, conducted the raid in Deh Khan Kharo, Memon Goth, in Gadap Town Karachi.
Later, the Gas Utility Court located in Malir cancelled the bail of the prime accused. He has been apprehended and is currently in custody at the SSGC Police Station. Gas Utility courts have been set up in Sindh and Balochistan to hear cases pertaining to gas theft.
The cancellation of bail by the Honourable Judge supports the legal procedures adopted by SSGC’s Security Services and Counter Gas Theft Operations (SS&CGTO).
SSGC has intensified its drive against natural gas theft, one of the major reasons behind the rising trend of Unaccounted-for-Gas (UFG). The Gas (Theft Control and Recovery) Act, 2016 passed by the National Assembly in 2016 and the recent establishment of Gas Theft utility courts has given the gas utilities the mandate to take unprecedented legal action against them.
