SSGC’s Customer Services Department, during its continued operations against illegal usage of gas, conducted different raids in Altaf Nagar (Korangi), Shah Lateef Town (National Highway) and Chandio Village near Dehli Colony in Karachi and disconnected around 2,030 connections using gas facility illegally. These gas thieves were steeling a quantum of about 93,177 million cubic feet gas per annum which amounts to Rs. 24.16 million.
According to the details, the task force conducted a raid in Altaf Nagar situated in Korangi area, headed by Nawab Ali Shah, Deputy Chief Manager (CRD). The team found around 1,300 house using gas illegally by injecting rubber pipes in SSGC’s main distribution pipeline network. SSGC crew immediately removed all clamps, accessories and rubber pipes and took all these goods in its custody. The officers and staff of SSGC police station, Utilization and Distribution Maintenance Departments were also present on the spot to help Task Force in its operation.
In another raid conducted in Shah Abdul Lateef Town situated near National Highway, the Task Force removed more than 500 illegal connections from which 22,950 mcf gas was being stolen, tuned to worth of Rs. 5.95 million. It must be noted that SSGC’s crew had already disconnected these illegal connections for more than three times during the current year. The culprits used to re-install their illegal connections after some time, after SSGC’s operation.
The Task Force also raided in Chandio village near Dehli Colony, after receiving confirm information from its reliable sources about gas theft. In the village during the operation, SSGC crew removed around 230 connections from which a network was being operated to supply gas to illegal users. During the operation, a large number of residents gathered on the spot and showed strong resistance in the disconnection process. The DSP of SSGC Police Station Shahid Abbas immediately called the area police to supplement the disconnection process and for avoiding any the law and order situation. The police authorities also lodged FIR against a builder named M/s Shahzad Builder who was allegedly providing gas to the residents of the locality.
