SSGC pitches in major renovation and construction work in Government College for Women, Sharae Liaquat, Karachi
Dr. Shehla Naqvi, Senior General Manager (Management Services) inaugurated the SSGC-supervised renovation and construction work of Government College for Women, Shahra-e-Liaquat, Karachi on January 28, 2014 as Chief Guest. The project was jointly undertaken by the CSR unit of Corporate Communications and the Civil Works Departments. Inam Ahmed, Director Colleges (Karachi Region) was also invited as one of the main invitees.
Salman A. Siddiqui, Chief Manager In-charge Corporate Communications led his Department at the inauguration. The scope of SSGC’s renovation work, carried out for a total cost of Rs. 2.5 million, out of CSR initiative for 2013-14, included repair and renovation of 3 toilet blocks and 6 science laboratories as well as installation of fencing and roof sheets for the canteen. The Company also provided mosaic benches and water coolers for the benefit of college students and faculty. Dr. Naqvi unveiled the plaque to inaugurate the renovated facility who was then taken on a guided tour of the renovated laboratories by the CCD team.
In her address, SGM (MS) reiterated that being a corporate citizen, SSGC provides not just monetary but brick and mortar support to educational institutions requiring much needed assistance. She gave an inspiring speech quoting some of the words of her father Sabah Akhtar, one of Pakistan’s prominent poets. She said though time may be tough yet one must never lose hope and strive to move forward.
Principal Professor Ms. Safia Musavi thanked SSGC’s management, CC and CW Departments for providing assistance to the College. A faculty member Ms. Tanveer Fatima presented her vote of thanks. Earlier, college students Shazmeen Gul and Umm-e-Kulsoom gave haunting recitation of Quran and naat while another student Paras Memon in her address profusely thanked SSGC for its support.
The ceremony was efficiently managed by Muhammad Ali Gohar, DCM (CCD/CSR) who was not just the master of ceremony but also worked dedicatedly in ensuring the timely completion of the project. At the same time, the vital role played by the CW Department led by GM Kamran Nagi and comprising of ADGM Azeem Akhtar, DCE Syed Feroz Akhtar and Engineer Ashar Ghafoorr must be acknowledged.
