In its initial proceedings, the Honourable Special Gas Utility Karachi after becoming operational recently for hearing gas theft related cases for the entire Karachi, ensured the recovery of quantum of loss of gas to the tune of Rs. 1,616,400 out of Rs. 3,216,400 to SSGC. Following this ruling, the Court granted post-arrest bail to the accused Shaan who was involved in a gas theft case. Shan was nominated in FIR registered in SSGC Police Station. SSGC’s Counter Gas Theft Operations (Prosecution Wing) contested the case.
It must be mentioned here that the speedy Special Utility Court for the entire Karachi was recently set up by Sindh High Court on SSGC’s recommendation.
Meanwhile, the Customer Relations Department’s Gas Theft Control team carried out several raids in Liaquatabad on four complaints lodged by an area resident. In all the areas that were raided, the theft control team found out that although the area was gasified, the residents had extended gas from the existing meter points. In the four raids undertaken by the Theft Control team, a total of 412 flats in 50 buildings were disconnected after the raiding team found them involved in blatant gas theft.
