Unaccounted-for-Gas (line losses) is one of the primary causes behind negative financial bottom-line. One of the major causes of UFG is gas theft. The Company is implementing a well-rounded strategy to control UFG that includes the following:
1. Unprecedented pipeline infrastructure and rehabilitation of distribution network in Karachi and other load centres
2. Separation of industrial customers from the domestic networks
3. Network leak monitoring and survey
4. Replacement of old EVCs with the latest models with anti-theft and anti-tampering capabilities
5. Replaced 80% of all the meters that had been in service for more than 4 years at larger customer sites have been successfully replaced
6. Arresting unauthorized usage of natural gas.
7. Enhanced metering of TBSs
8. Door-to-door survey to collect evidence of parameters impacting monthly billing that resulted in UFG savings of 5 BCF.
9. Crackdown on gas theft including raids on illegal compressor installation in domestic and industrial sector
These measures, along with many other across the board technical steps, have contributed towards reducing the total UFG of the company especially in Karachi where from 13%, it has come down to single digit i.e. 9% after a long time. Company-wide, UFG has declined from 17% to 14.26%.
