SSGC has successfully commissioned the first phase of the 30’ dia. x 116-km transmission pipeline from Kotri to Karachi for injecting 247 mmcfd gas to the system, by completing the project in less than two months, The first phase constituted laying down a 30” dia., 32-km gas from Baran River to Jhampir transmission pipeline. The pipeline is the first of the four phases of the Hyderabad-Karachi Gas Pipeline Project undertaken to ensure smooth supply chain of gas in the province.
The old 16” dia. pipeline laid down 40 years ago did not enough have capacity to cater to extra volumes that was made available due to recent discoveries of new gas wells. Laying down a 30” dia. pipeline for replacing 16” dia. line was the logical solution for ensuring smooth gas supply in Sindh.
Pipeline construction and that too in a short span of task was no easy task as the project had to go through many intricate processes on ground. On May 15, 2023, the P&C got down to constructing the pipeline. It was also no easy feat constructing a pipeline with a very difficult ROW of about 15 km hard rock. Working full throttle and on a fast pace right from the start, the P&C engineers and workers carried out an arduous business of lowering preparation, ditching, line pipe stringing, internal clamping for welding and laying of pipeline and backfilling. Hot and sultry weather hardly dampened their spirits. The remarkable achievement would not have been possible under the leadership of MD, SSGC ADMD Operations, ASGM Technical Services, DGM- Incharge P&C and engineers, technicians and workers who completed the first phase by displaying an extraordinary commitment and grit.
Besides consolidating its rich infrastructure that would ultimately facilitate in supplying gas to the ever-rising customer base, the pipeline is yet another addition to the Company’s capital expenditure.
