Absorbing games of cricket played at SSGC Sports Festival

NEWSThe 2nd Sports Festival 2014, one of the biggest events in the history of SSGC, is moving ahead full throttle with its inter-divisional teams competing in a number of indoor and outdoor events.A0 The Round matches of cricket, one of the Festival92s most anticipated sports, were played this weekend under floodlights in the Company92s Karachi Terminal Sports Club ground and drew the most cheers.

On Day 2 of the Festival, last year92s cricket runner-up and Festival champions, MS Kangaroos became the first of the eight sides to reach the semi-final by beating CS Dolphins in a thrilling game.A0 Batting first, thanks to some fine MS Kangaroos bowling and fielding, the Dolphins scored only 48 in allotted 8 overs.A0 Zeeshan Tanveer was the mainstay of the Dolphins batting. He helped his team reached a respectable total with a flurry of sixes.A0 The Kangaroos started erratically losing two early wickets of Danish Javed and Farhan Munaf before recouping thanks to a blistering inning by Sadaf Abbas whose bat rained sixes all over the park.

In an earlier match, CS Dolphins defeated Corporate Sharks while Finance Falcons overwhelmed ES Panthers to move confidently into next rounds.A0 On Day 1 of the Festival, the next set of games between the eight inter-divisional teams will be played on May 2 and 3 followed by semi-finals and finals on weeks 3 and 4, respectively.

On Day 1, MS Kangaroos beat Distribution Dragons by 27 runs while in the second contest, last year92s winners IT Lions defeated Finance Falcons by 38 runs.

The Sports Festival, started on April 25 and will end with a closing ceremony on May 17, 2014. More than 700 Company executives are competing in around 20 indoor and outdoor sports including cricket, golf, adventure sports, badminton, chess, snooker, scrabble and 100 meter and relay races.
